Established in the heart of Sandathanna, our property was originally built in the early 20th century as a hill country retreat for British tea planters seeking respite from the tropical heat. The distinctive architecture, with its Tudor-style elements and meticulous wooden detailing, has been lovingly preserved through careful restoration. When the current owners discovered this hidden gem in 2018, they envisioned creating a luxury accommodation that honors its historical significance while introducing modern comforts. Named after London's iconic observation wheel, our hotel offers similarly spectacular vistas—not of an urban skyline, but of Sri Lanka's breathtaking hill country landscapes. Each room has been thoughtfully designed to preserve original features while incorporating contemporary luxuries that today's discerning travelers expect. The transformation from colonial bungalow to boutique hotel has been a labor of love, with local craftspeople and international designers collaborating to create spaces that celebrate both Sri Lankan heritage and British colonial influence. Journey & Expertise
My journey in hospitality began over two decades ago when I worked as a management trainee at one of Sri Lanka’s premier five-star resorts. That experience ignited a passion for creating exceptional guest experiences that has guided my career ever since.
After honing my skills across various luxury properties in Southeast Asia and gaining valuable experience with international hotel brands, I returned to Sri Lanka with a vision to create something truly special in the hill country. My extensive background in hotel operations, combined with formal education in hospitality management from Cornell University, provided the foundation needed to transform this vision into reality.
During my years abroad, I had the privilege of working alongside world-renowned chefs, interior designers, and hospitality experts who shaped my understanding of what makes a truly memorable hotel experience. These influences are evident throughout London Eye Hotel, from our culinary offerings to our thoughtfully designed spaces.
The journey to establish London Eye Hotel involved meticulous research into Nuwara Eliya’s rich history, collaborations with local artisans and historians to preserve authenticity, and partnerships with sustainability experts to ensure our practices honor and protect this magnificent environment.
